They say the eyes are the windows to
the soul. And I’d always regarded mine as my best feature until two
distinct ledges seemed to form under my windows.
Some
days my eyes simply looked a little puffy, but throw in a few late
nights and I soon looked as if I’d gone a couple of rounds with Mike
Tyson.
For those who have considered eyebag removal surgery — a small incision
along the lower lash line to remove some of the fat underneath — but
felt the pros don't outweigh the cons: wrinkling around the eyes due to
skin tightening, change in eye shape, the chance that the bags could
return, not to mention the £4,000 cost.
Well there is now hope and a new, revolutionary ‘tear trough treatment’, which
promises not only to make bags and dark circles disappear, but to do so
in just ten minutes. ‘It knocks seven years off,’ one review stated.
In
just ten minutes? I doubted it very much. But according to Dr Nikola
Milojevic at the Milo Clinic in Harley Street, London, this really was
the case.
‘The treatment works on the
depressions that run from the nose and around the under-eye area,’ he
says. ‘They get more noticeable as the skin sags with age, and fat
accumulates. While the surgical removal of eyebags gets rid of the fatty
tissue, it doesn’t conceal dark circles.’
This procedure, however, does. It involves carefully injecting a filler called Perlane above the bone of the eye socket, which is massaged into the pocket beneath the eye and around the fatty tissue, plumping up hollows, concealing dark circles and blending into the cheekbones.
The results are instant and last nine to 12 months. Side-effects are mild bruising and swelling but at £500, the treatment costs a fraction of the price of surgery. And unlike an operation, if you don’t like the results, a second injection simply washes the filler away.
